Webinar: Asset and Needs Assessment for NYC Schools

March 5, 2019 All day

The Community Schools Technical Assistance Center at Fordham University’s Center for Educational Partnerships invites principals and key school leadership members to participate in an introductory/orientation webinar for non-Community Schools.

Asset and Needs Assessment Webinar for NYC Schools

There are 247 existing Community Schools in the five boroughs of New York City with 11 more slated to begin full implementation of the community school strategy in Fall 2019. This webinar is being provided for the approximately 1,600 New York City public schools that are not currently implementing the strategy.

NYC Schools Chancellor Carranza has stated that the community school strategy is a means to address the need for greater equity and access in New York City schools. As the school system continues to explore ways to address this important issue, some may be exploring the key aspects and components of the community school model and therefore, would complete the Asset and Needs Assessment. This 65-minute webinar will introduce the community school model, provide the context for the importance of determining the partnerships and programs that exist and those that need to be forged, and an overview of the instrument that has been created by the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Community Schools. The findings from your school’s Asset and Needs Assessment is a seminal document to beginning the community school strategy.

The webinar will be open and available to all involved in the community school strategy throughout the State of New York with priority registration for those school leaders and designated key personnel from the New York City region (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island).

Details about the dates, times, and locations are in the planning phase so stay tuned for additional information.

The Community Schools Technical Assistance Center (CSTAC) at Fordham University serves the five boroughs of New York City which cover the NYS Regents Judicial Districts 1 (New York County), 2 (Kings County), 11 (Queens County), 12 (Bronx County), and 13 (Richmond County). • Provide technical assistance that supports school communities to focus on the needs of the whole child, their families, and the larger community.
  • Help existing community schools and assist aspiring schools in advancing their ongoing development in the community school strategy and the Four Pillars.
